Harvard Club of Chile Hosts Harvard Undergrads on Ski Trip to Portillo

The Harvard Club of Chile and the Centro de Ski Portillo hosted a group of current Harvard students for a day of skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in Portillo.

The students are all spending their summers working and interning in Chile, and this trip provided a welcome respite from their work in Santiago including winter sports and Harvard camaraderie in the Andes. Weather cooperated beautifully for their visit to Portillo, two hours drive northeast of Santiago, and the group enjoyed gorgeous blue skies and great snow conditions. Undergrad Marie Mekosh ’14 was the organizer on behalf of the students, and Ellen Guidera MBA ’86, Board Member of the Harvard Club of Chile and Director of Portillo Ski Resort, made the local arrangements.

In addition to a full day on the slopes, the students toured the ski hotel, attended a discussion about Portillo’s history with the owner, and enjoyed a hearty afternoon tea. George Doran ’15, one of the students on the trip, described the outing as a tremendous success: “It was an amazing opportunity to ski and see one of the most beautiful places in Chile.  Everyone was incredibly nice and helpful, and I absolutely loved lunching…and hearing the history of the mountain.  Without a doubt, I cannot wait to return and hopefully enjoy a longer stay there.”

The HAA thanks the Harvard Club of Chile for welcoming the Harvard students to their country!
